The main objective of BIMAG is to work with Bayside residents to foster the recovery of our native bird populations in gardens and private properties. We have been doing this so far by helping you curb the numbers of invasive Indian Mynas, which have steadily impacted the number of local birds in our gardens. This predation, on top of the loss of natural habitat, has almost eliminated a number of bird species from many parts of Bayside.
As well as encouraging residents to stock their gardens with native trees and local bushy plants, many of which can be obtained from the Bayside Community Nursery, we have been lending members traps to help to directly reduce the number of Indian Mynas, and many members have reported good results.
Now, we are pleased to announce that we have available a third initiative which residents can be involved with to provide further assistance to our native bird population.
Working with the Friends of Native Wildlife Inc., we are able to make available two types of Nesting Boxes, which residents meeting the criteria, will be able to install in their gardens.
We will only have a limited supply of nesting boxes available, so we need to ensure they go where they do the most good.
More information on this will be coming in the months ahead!
